Hardware Overview
RTS-1 Open-Loop Controller
The RTS-1 controller provides five motor driver outputs for open-loop bipolar stepper motors. The default motor configuration is intended for gantry-type CNC machines with one X axis rail, up to two Y axis rails, one Z axis rail and an additional axis A for rotary or linear motion.
Power is supplied via an 8-pin connector on the front panel.
RTS-2 Closed-Loop Controller
The RTS-2 controller provides five motor interface outputs for closed-loop stepper motors with integrated drivers. the default motor configuration is intended for gantry-type CNC machines with one X axis rail, up to two Y-axis rails, one Z axis rail and an additional axis A for rotary or linear motion.
Each axis is paired with a three pin limit switch connector. The connector provides 5V power for standard opto-interrupter limit switches. These inputs are also compatible with simple switch-type limit switches.
RTS-X Rear Panel
The rear panel layout is common to the RTS-1 and RTS-2 controllers.
The 25-pin DB-25 houses all of the inputs and outputs (I/O) of the controller.
Two LEDs (power and status) are present to indicate controller status. The power LED is green and solid when the controller is connected to a host PC. The status LED will blink when the controller is operating normally.
Four additional I/O connectors are provided for convenience:
- Probe input
- Tool setter input
- PWM output (laser)
- VFD RS-485 communication interface
A SD card slot is present for future expansion.
The main communication interface for the controller is a USB port utilizing a USB-C connector. The RTS-X controllers are USB2.0 devices.
